Spring is {finally!} in the air!

Day to day...sometimes moment to moment...life goes up and down and back again and all around.  Sometimes I feel gray on auto-pilot, and others I feel light and see details with an optimism and calm that is so refreshing and so foreign on those gray days...and I must admit, some days I'd like to (and sometimes do ) : slam doors, cry, scream and walk away.

Rising above circumstances, staying present and connecting with God -- all words to live by that I've heard and briefly contemplated plenty over the years.  As these years roll by, the words mean more and more, and I try to really listen and fuse them into my days.  And it's tough...it's certainly not a cure-all for the gray (dark would be a better adjective for some) days but it provides me more awareness and hope for trudging through them.

If I can lasso my stray and selfish thoughts, sling 'em at His feet -- get present, take a deep breath, be thankful -- I can sometimes bring myself back to lightness and humility and connection.

Most people's life's works produce ultimate highs and lows as well as everything in between.  Here's a little update about my life's work:

Graham, as many an 8 year-old, has entered the spring dual sports zone.  Last week Thursday at 6pm, he had a baseball game, soccer practice and first communion rehearsal.  First communion took precedence hands-down and both sports were, conveniently for Graham's schedule, rained-out.

Estelle is fully immersed in the Disney movie's, Frozen, culture, of which seems to be epidemic in little girls.  Though I cannot help smiling and feeling my heart warm at the flamboyant dancing and belting of 'let it goooo! let it gooooooo!'.

Ambitious, energy- and action-packed Jason tore his achilles tendon in late March!  What a shocker -- but -- in typical Jason-fashion, he's really confidently yet humbly and strongly cruised through all of the steps so far and seems to be progressing even better than predicting with PT.

Probably most of these posts talk at some length about busy-ness!  I won't break the trend -- a facebook 'friend's' post:

Stop the glorification of busy
"NOTHING....is becoming rare and precious. Everything is hype, noise, desire, desperation, speed and greed. We in the modern world are good at 'doing,' but anemic at 'being.' Entertainment, busy-ness, texting while walking or even driving...'Efficiency' is an addictive myth based on our fidgety fear of opening up. We can not 'do' properly until we can, first, 'be' fully. Practice doing nothing - then - we can accomplish...ANYTHING."

A lot of bouncing around (the pictures themselves are out of timeline, too!)  -- now some pictures of Jason's fine foods but mostly of the kiddies and the last few months.  Some quantity here:

Forgiveness and Thankfulness in Adversity

So my wallet was stolen out of my purse while Estelle and I were out having lunch on Wednesday.  Hopefully, the money will be refunded and I'll get to the DMV soon and maybe I was a little too covetous of my new Coach wallet.

Estelle wasn't hurt.  I wasn't hurt.  We came home a little brazen and shaken but in a good way.  We came home.  To family, a warm house, listening and caring ears, to many, many things to be thankful for.  I pray that the two involved on the other side of the interaction find peace and reasons to smile and be thankful.

It's already helped me.  Keeps me on my toes.  Instead of losing some faith in humanity, I gained a little;  Estelle was a champ through the confusing flurry ("your credit card got 'canced'"?),  The timely vigilance of Visa, the calming confidence of P.O. Dan Kane, the understanding of the financial companies and all the other people around us bustling about their lives.  We're all just trying to get by; we all have pain and wonder inside.  I could see so much wonder which out-shined the pain.

It's brought me a little more awareness.  I feel a little more awake...and thankful.

I was brought to a few (overwhelming, happy) tears with this morning's verses from Jesus calling...(still mulling the details over in my head with some chagrin and reproach):

When I am afraid, I will trust in you.  In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust;  I will not be afraid.  What can mortal man do to me?  Psalm 56:3-4

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  Matthew 6:20-21

Have a great day...thanks for listening/reading...love to you xo

J [ul] A [ug] S [ep] O [ct] N [ov]

Ever notice that the first letters of the month July through November spell JASON?

...Which is only half appropriate for this post but ah well...

Three summer 'events' that were in the front of my mind were our Downer Days party -- annual tradition of an early dinner/party at our house and we all head up to Downer Ave. for a pro bike race around a couple city blocks.  Before that, all of the kids bring their bikes and do age group races -- so much fun and excitement for the kids...and super cute to watch for the adults.

Second was my Mom's estate sale.  She sold many, many antiques, collectibles, housewares, etc.  It was a really fun success.  All of her prep work paid off and we had fun together working it and seeing neighbors and watching nice things walk away to appreciating others...thereby lightening my Mom's load.

Thirdly, Jason's company, JaCor, had a booth at the Oshkosh AirVenture show.  I got to plan and design the booth.  My Dad, living close to Oshkosh and being adept at this kind of thing, worked the booth for the week which was really special.  Really interesting and fun experience.

And the biggy and much anticipated trip for us was to Paris in August in celebration of our 10 year anniversary last October.  We have a list of things we want to do 'next time' already.  It was blissful.  Unending gratitude to Mary and Dave for taking care of Graham and Estelle while we were away.

Pictures got scrambled a little bit...

From scratch crust with mini pepperoni, spinach and freshly shredded mozzarella -- grilled -- yum

At the tradeshow - Dad and Stelly

A little pride there -- I had fun planning this!

Joe and Estelle

WinePlayDate gals went on a sunset sail with Sea Dog Sailing for Kari's birthday -- crazy fun and beautiful.

PARIS!  The beauty, the romance...lives up to all of the hype!

Tulleries Garden outside of the Lourve

Ooooh, french onion soup.  Tried it everywhere.  So good.  This was my 2nd fave.

That lovers lock bridge...

In Saint Sulpice
Delacroix mural in Saint Sulpice cathedral -- he painted it to look 3D...incredible.

This screams SUMMER -- had our share of BLTs with Jason's garden tomatoes -- delicious

State Fair!

Our Paris apartment's staircase...gorgeous

Charcuterie...so special

The view from our apartment -- dreamy

A fromagerie -- don't see one of these everyday -- all cheese -- only in Paris

Champagne cave in Reims -- incredible.

Summer dinner -- grilled salmon and potatoes with roasted broccoli and grilled bruschetta with tomatoes and basil from Jason's garden

Ravioli with J's garden basil, zucchini and tomoatoes

Needs a clockwise rotation but this is uncle Joe playing baseball with Graham in the backyard -- which is done almost every time we're there!

This time was for our 'Lac Vieux DePoygan' trip (we usually go to the UP border on Lac Vieux Desert but opted to go to Papa's, Kacky and Joe's house on Poygan)

Needs a counter-clockwise but one of our yummy family summer vacay dinners -- Kathy & Graham

Uncle Tim -- what it's all about ( : + time with family

Estelle 'walking' a rabbit at the Eau Claire County Fair

Jason took the kids camping on his own!  Kudos.  I couldn't do it.

Lake Michigan chill at Harrington Beach

Estelle will hold most bugs and fish -- still wants to hold everything -- here it's an alewife, I believe, dead maybe.

Graham had a nice baseball season and at this game they announced each player and sang the national anthem -- real cute.

Graham mounted one of the sculptures from the Eau Claire city exhibit

Estelle and blueberries!

This poor, poor chipmunk.
